Open Technique

This normally occurs by cutting along the columella which is located between the nostrils to gain better access to the bone, cartilage and tissue. However by using this method the healing time might increase considerably if compared with the closed technique.

Osteotomy

This method requires the surgeon to skillfully break the nasal bones in order to reshape and reposition them. It is generally done to correct a high dorsal hump or to create a much more narrower base on the nose. This technique is complicated and therefore should only be used if necessary. This method will is normally used if the patient has a case of deviated septum. Normally people that suffer from breathing problems such as snoring or sleep apnea will have to undergo septoplasty. The plastic surgeon will make small incisions to the insides of the nose and start working through the incisions the surgeon trims. The surgeon will then reshape the bent cartilage to create a more natural and septum shape.
